Chef Meherwan Irani spotlights Indian culture
After a premiere screening at Ponce City Market last March, Cutting Chai is now available for public consumption. The 10-part docuseries from chef Meherwan Irani and the team behind Chai Pani is being released online, and episodes one through three are up on the project’s official website and YouTube channel.
Over the course of the series, Irani takes fellow Chai Pani chefs Daniel Peach and James Grogan on a culinary expedition through India, visiting 10 cities in 11 days. Irani uses the trip to explain how Indian culture inspired his restaurants in Atlanta and Asheville.
Cutting Chai episodes four through six will be released on Tuesday, March 14, and episodes seven through 10 will be available on Tuesday, April 11. Irani is taking his series on the road, where it will be screened in its entirety this Friday at the Oxford (Miss.) Film Festival. A future screenings at the Kinoki Film Festival in Mexico City is also in the works.
Irani and Chai Pani brand director Michael Files, who helped shoot and direct Cutting Chai, are planning to collaborate on future documentary projects as well. See the first three episodes of Cutting Chai below.
