Stone Brewing’s former brewmaster Mitch Steele has a name for his Atlanta project
Mitch Steele, who for 10 years served as brewmaster for lauded California beer maker Stone Brewing Co., has chosen a name for his forthcoming Atlanta brewpub. New Realm Brewing Company will open adjacent the BeltLine’s Eastside Trail in Poncey-Highland later this year.
The venture, first announced last September, is a collaboration among Steele and partners Carey Falcone and Bob Powers. New Realm will include an on-site brewery, restaurant, beer garden, and rooftop bar.
“We could not be more thrilled to announce our name, New Realm,” Falcone, the brewpub’s chief executive officer, said in a prepared statement. “It has taken us quite a bit of time — over many beers, of course — to create our vision and land on the right name for our future brewery and restaurant. New Realm speaks to our desire to create a new realm in brewing and dining experiences, and to support an outstanding and dynamic local craft beer community.”
Steele is still developing a beer menu, but he says IPAs will be showcased along with “barrel-aged beers and traditional lagers.”
New Realm, planned for 820 Ralph McGill Boulevard NE, will occupy 20,000 square feet of space as part of a larger development that is taking over the former Western Electric building. A “Latin-inspired brasserie” is also in the works for the project. Two Urban Licks already operates out of a space at the site, and it will remain in its current home.
