Downtown Pizzeria Max’s Is Expanding to Dunwoody

Coming soon to Perimeter Mall

Following the shutter of Varasano’s at Dunwoody’s Perimeter Mall, another pizza destination is taking over the space. Max’s Coal Oven Pizzeria, which already boasts a Downtown location, is on track to open at 4400 Ashford Dunwoody Rd. NE, Unit 2090, this spring.

“Our first Max’s Coal Oven Pizzeria location has continued to do extremely well, and we have received feedback from frequent guests,” Brian Bullock, chief operating officer for Max’s parent company Legacy Ventures, said in a Tuesday announcement. “They wished we were further outside the city, and we’re excited to oblige this request and open in the wonderful Dunwoody community.”

Max’s is also planning westward expansion with a restaurant in Cinnamon Shores, Texas. That outpost is on track to begin service this summer.

The new Max’s at Perimeter Mall will offer menu similar to that at the Downtown original, but there will be some additions. Look for pies such as the Caprino (sausage, goat cheese, mozzarella, red onion, and basil); the Tradizionale (pepperoni, sausage, roasted red peppers, and red onion); and the Fontina & Funghi (fontina, wild mushrooms, caramelized onions, and fresh oregano). All pizzas will be cooked in a coal-burning oven.

Legacy Ventures also operates Stats, Der Biergarten, Game-X, Glenn’s Kitchen, and Twin Smoker’s BBQ.
